Missing or broken libgnutls library

Description

Some Windows applications (Quicken, Outlook, Diablo III, and many more) need the GnuTLS library to perform encryption or check online certificates.

Resolution

On CrossOver 17 and greater, the simplest solution to fix this issue is to run:

/path/to/cxoffice/bin/cxfix missinglibgnutls missinglibgnutls.amd64

Or add --show-all to see how CrossOver would fix it on your platform and others.

Alternatively you may try one of the commands below.

  • For 32-bit Windows applications
    32-bit Arch Linux : pacman -Syu gnutls
    64-bit Arch Linux : pacman -Syu lib32-gnutls
    Debian >= 7 : apt-get install libgnutls26:i386
    Debian >= 8 : apt-get install libgnutls-deb0-28:i386
    Debian >= 9 : apt-get install libgnutls30:i386
    32-bit Fedora : yum install gnutls
    64-bit Fedora : yum install gnutls.i686 gnutls.x86_64
    32-bit openSUSE >= 11.2 : zypper install libgnutls26
    64-bit openSUSE >= 11.2 : zypper install libgnutls26-32bit
    32-bit openSUSE >= 12.1 : zypper install libgnutls28
    64-bit openSUSE >= 12.1 : zypper install libgnutls28-32bit
    32-bit openSUSE >= 15.0 : zypper install libgnutls30
    64-bit openSUSE >= 15.0 : zypper install libgnutls30-32bit
  • For 64-bit Windows applications
    Arch Linux : pacman -Syu gnutls
    Debian >= 7 : apt-get install libgnutls26:amd64
    Debian >= 8 : apt-get install libgnutls-deb0-28:amd64
    Debian >= 9 : apt-get install libgnutls30:amd64
    Fedora : yum install gnutls.x86_64
    openSUSE >= 11.2 : zypper install libgnutls26
    openSUSE >= 12.1 : zypper install libgnutls28
    openSUSE >= 15.0 : zypper install libgnutls30

Notes:

  • cxfix --show-all may have more up-to-date fixes.
  • The commands usually also apply to newer versions of the distributions above as well as derived distributions. So for instance a fix for Debian 7 may still be valid for the latest Debian Testing and is typically also applicable to Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Deepin and Pop! OS. Similarly a fix for Fedora likely also works on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, etc.

CrossOver 14.1.2 and older on Debian

The name of the library changed on Debian causing CrossOver 14.1.2 and older not to find it. If you cannot upgrade CrossOver you can work around this issue by creating a symbolic link to restore functionality. First make sure the libgnutls package is installed using the commands above and then run:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgnutls-deb0.so.28 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgnutls.so.28

CrossOver 13.1.3 and older on openSUSE

CrossOver 13.1.3 does not recognize the newer names of the libgnutls library used on modern openSUSE systems. If you cannot upgrade CrossOver you can work around this issue by creating a symbolic link to restore functionality. First make sure the libgnutls package is installed using the commands above and then run:

ln -s /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.28 /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.26

Next Step: Missing or broken libgphoto2.so.6 library
